Be Happy!

'Do you want to be right, or do you want to be happy?'

I can still remember the exact moment I first became acquainted with this ingenious concept. I was in my late 20's and struggling mightily to forgive someone who had done something to me that I considered unforgivable. I was miserable, I was making the person I could not forgive miserable, and a very large aspect of my life was about to go down the tubes because of this.

When my mind wrapped around the concept that I could actually let go of 'being right' it was like someone had just handed me a 'get out of jail free' card.... and I did. The jail walls crumbled the moment I let go of my need to be right and to punish the one who had wronged me. As my righteousness took a back seat, happiness took the wheel, and for the first time in a long time, I was truly free. It was a lesson that I have never forgotten and to this day, when my need to be right begins to eclipse my ability to feel happy I send the need to be right to the back seat and I let happy drive.

If you find yourself having to choose between your righteousness and your happiness, it is worth asking yourself today's question.... 'Do you want to be right, or do you  want to be happy?' If you answer the question correctly, the 'get out of jail free card' will appear- and just like that, the walls will come down and you will find yourself free.
