The interactive universe has been particularly responsive at our house this week and last night our 8-year-old son got a wonderful lesson in this fact. Here is the backstory to his lesson: Last week I received a call from our local library stating that a library book called ‘Splat the Cat with a Bang and a Clang’ was overdue. Of course upon inquiry Ajay swore that he had turned it in along with the others we had borrowed. So for the past few days he and I have been searching high and low for this book. This search has amounted to no small task considering there are literally hundreds of books to look through. (I am an admitted bibliophile and our abundance of books and bookshelves show it.)Fast forward to yesterday afternoon. Ajay needed to complete his daily reading assignment for school so he went to one of our many bookshelves to choose a book. As he slid the one he wanted off the shelf, the other books shifted and one of them fell to the floor. Being 8 years old he ignored this fact and walked away without so much as a glance toward the book. Knowing none of this, a few hours later I walked down this same hallway and was shocked when I saw ‘Splat the Cat with a Bang and a Clang’ laying face up before me.When I asked Ajay why the book was laying in the hallway he shrugged and claimed to have no idea. Then he remembered that a book had fallen off the book shelf earlier- he was amazed that of all the books on the shelf, the one that had fallen was Thee missing book! Such a perfect teachable moment! We spent the next few minutes discussing how our 'searching' thoughts had magnetized the lost book right off the shelf. He thought this was all pretty cool, and I have to admit I did too! We had looked everywhere for that book.... and it ended up finding us!
