Enneagram Type 9: The Peacemaker

Enneagram Type Nine: The PeacemakerThe primary motivation for a Type Nine is to have peace and comfort in their lives. They are the best listeners of the Enneagram and they are patient to a fault. Adaptable and accommodating, they have an unusual ability to go with the flow and use their easy going nature to merge with their loved ones and the environment around them.In the levels of development that are part of the Enneatype system, an integrated (healthy) type Nine is the slow and steady one who wins the race. Although never fast moving, once they set their sights firmly on a goal they are relentless ( although slow and methodical) in their pursuit of it. They make excellent support people to stronger enneatypes and this is a place in which they thrive. When they are closely linked with stronger personalities, this pulls them forward out of their own inertia, but also allows them the sense of merging that they crave. When a Nine integrates, they begin to assert themselves more firmly out in the world and find their own voice, taking on qualities of the Enneatype Three.Average Type Nines can be so willing to go with the flow that they lose their selves in the agendas of others. Their adaptable nature if not carefully monitored can become a deficit rather than an asset. Because they are so accommodating, average Nines run the risk of appearing both uninterested and uninteresting to those around them.Under stress, when an average Nine starts to disintegrate, they move in the direction of average Type Six and their inner peace is suddenly shattered with insecurity and suspicion. If they really move into their lower natures, they can be paranoid and accusatory.Famous 9s:  Carl Jung, Nelson Mandela, Bill Clinton, Tiger Woods, Prince Charles, Scottie Pippen, Walter Cronkite, Ronald Reagan, Dwight Eisenhower, The Dalai Lama.
