Lighting Lamps

'If you light a lamp for someone else, it will also brighten your path.' Rumi

I had a ‘moment’ yesterday…right in the middle of Wal-Mart. I was doing my routine weekly grocery shopping and waiting in a surprisingly long line for an early Sunday morning. Since I was standing there idle, I logged into the day’s Rx just as two notifications from readers registered on my screen. One was a simple ‘like’, and the other was a comment.  I was stunned at the timing of this… knocked over in fact, that these two unconnected human beings, had collided at the same moment here at Rx for the Soul. You see, both of these beautiful souls are personally known to me and both are people that I care deeply about. They are also bereaved parents- one has walked the journey of grief for many years now, while the other is newly baptized. My words yesterday touched on the fact that our moments are limited- that we have finite time with those we love…. And the realization that these two people are reading my words and finding worth and meaning in them just took me to my knees. The poor checker at Wal-Mart didn’t quite know what to do with me… I didn’t really know what to do with me. I am not sure why it hit me so hard, but it was a good hit, and the tears were more sweet than bitter. If something that I write makes even one person feel less alone in the world, then I have succeeded in my life's task. Rx for the Soul has been the perfect vehicle to pursue this task- and the gifts I receive from  readers - they are more than you could ever know. The soulful three way interaction that I got to witness yesterday, when these two bereaved parents chose the same moment to check in here at Rx for the Soul, reminded me of how interconnected we all are- and how much we all give and take together, sometimes without even knowing it. It is easy to forget that we each have the ability to shine a light into the lives of others, or to find our way by using someone else’s glow. Today let’s all remember…

If you light a lamp for someone else, it will also brighten your path.
