Open Sea

A ship in a harbor is safe, but that’s not what ships are built for. ~Unknown

Such a wise quote and I chose it because I have been heading out into the open sea in my own little life lately.I recently committed to taking a business course that is a big investment both in time and money. I spent months mulling it over and grappling with my own excuses of why not, but finally made the decision to enroll. My first week of classes put me nose to nose with so many different things that I resist; numbers, graphs, soliciting things from others….. I squirmed and balked, and moaned and groaned a bit, but when all was said and done…. Every hoop that was held up, I forced myself to take a flying leap through it.Real growth is always going to sit just beyond the edge of our comfort zone. Do you live each and every day behind that comfort zone? Do you ever stretch yourself to move beyond it, or do you only move forward when a difficult life event catapults you there?Growth is going to come whether we want it to or not. Strategic movement on our own terms is always better than the drop kick that the universe delivers when we have been stagnant for too long.Think of a place in your own life where you can push against your comfort zone today. It does not have to be huge…. It can be as simple as watching a TV show that you might otherwise avoid, or combatting your shy nature and striking up a conversation with someone you are in line next to at the grocery store.

Growth on our own terms is always the gentlest type… so for today, start where you are and head out into that open sea....
