Shine On

Do you think it possible that some people are born to give more love than they will ever get back in return?    Tyler Knott Gregson

Years ago I worked with a young woman who had endured an unspeakable tragedy. She had suffered a sudden multiple loss that turned her world upside down in a way that truly left those around her (myself included) without words. Despite all odds, she was able to piece her life back together and she created a new life full of hope and meaning. She moved away and we did not keep in touch, but knowing that her life had been blessed with a new beginning was a happy truth that stayed in my heart all these years.A few weeks ago I ran into her dad… before I could even get the word 'hello' out of my mouth, his facial expression told me everything. His voice was a whisper as he shared with me the horrible truth that once again, sudden loss had moved through this beautiful young woman’s life and left her fractured in a way that was unimaginable.I walked away truly shaken. I DO believe that we live in a benevolent universe and that everything that happens to us, no matter how difficult, is somehow for our betterment and the greater good. But I had to wonder, do accidents happen? Does the universe screw up? Is there sometimes a little rip in the fabric of the cosmos that lets something happen that was never supposed to happen?Of course I don’t know the answers to those questions, but I do have a working answer to the question asked in today’s quote ‘Do you think it possible that some people are born to give more love than they will ever get back?'I do think it's possible, and for those who walk these kinds of paths…. I have to believe that they are not being punished, but that they are being honored...Honored with experiences that grow their souls in ways that nothing else can.If I had to sum up my thoughts in one succint little phrase, this is it:That which shatters the human, spit-shines the soul.

Shine on, beautiful lady. Shine on.
